Robust evidence Initiative

Strengthening forensic science

To guarantee fair trials we must ensure that the forensic science presented in court has a real evidential basis and that the defence has adequate resources to scrutinise the claims made by prosecution experts.

Too often, we come across cases where convictions have been secured on the basis of 'junk' science or expert exaggerations. Even worse, a lack of access to exhibits following conviction makes it difficult to carry out new testing which could help get to the truth.

We are working to firm up the evidence used in court through casework and raising awareness of certain limitations of forensic science.
